A Chief Engineer will manage the Engineering Team to efficiently maintain all hotel operations such that safety, security, conversation, and compliance are ensured at the highest levels.


What will I be doing?

To:
a) be a passionate HGI host and

b) take care of the hotel's infrastructure to ensure the premises are safe and functional for guests and team members alike.


Duties & Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute duties as assigned by the General Manager
  • Regularly inspect the hotel to ensure it meets safety standards and take corrective action as required
  • Arrange for routine maintenance in hotel rooms, lobby, back of house facilities (heart of house, kitchen etc.), car park, outdoor areas
  • Plan and oversee renovations and construction
  • Develop and implement emergency programmes and act fast to resolve emergency issues (e. g. power outages)
  • Find ways to reduce hotel operating costs and conserve energy and water, managing LightStay and monitoring key engineering performance indicators
  • Select, train, supervise and evaluate maintenance team member(s)
  • Manage relationships with contractors and service providers
  • Manage the engineering budget, expenses and maintain activity logs
  • Perform a variety of repair and maintenance tasks including, but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, AC, landscaping, painting and cleaning
  • Take corrective action as required to improve equipment inventory, quality audit scores, productivity and guest satisfaction
  • Provide a stimulating brighthearted work environment to Engineering Team Members that allows everyone to thrive and fulfil their potential,
  • Ensure that all Engineering TMs understand the purpose of their role, including the requirement to not only be technical specialists but also great hosts who are expected to perform duties in other areas of the business when required. (that includes for example cleaning duties or breakfast service area prep duties)
  • Be a role model for the Engineering Team in regards to regularly assisting the ops team in delivering brighthearted guest experiences: Help setting up breakfast, clear tables in the restaurant, give a helping to HSK etc. etc. when time allows it
  • Ensure regular & effective communication (e. g. Huddles) with the Engineering team to achieve / maintain a high level of trust & engagement
  • Support the overall management of the hotel by establishing effective working relationships with all other departments, ensuring a high level of cross departmental collaboration

  • Excellent grooming standards
  • Flexibility to respond to a range of different work situations
  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Previous experience of facilities management
  • Proficient, at an advanced level, with computers and relevant computer programs
It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

  • First Aid
  • Qualification in engineering field
